A Billion for a Billion

The World Food Program is the world’s largest humanitarian agency whose mission is to combat hunger worldwide.

Currently, there are 1 billion people who go to bed hungry every night, which is approximately one sixth of the world’s population.  Of the total number of  people who are hungry in the world, over half are in Asia and the Pacific with a quarter in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Recently the existing economic crisis has made it more difficult to extend assistance to these areas.  As a result:

-Some governments have been less willing to fund food assistance
-Families in poor countries receive less money from relatives working abroad
-Poor families pull children out of school and buy less nutritious food

Fortunately, the WFP has established 5 strategic objectives to get the job done!

1.    Save lives and protect livelihoods in emergencies
2.    Prevent acute hunger and invest in disaster preparedness and mitigation measures
3.    Restore and rebuild lives and livelihoods in post-conflict, post-disaster or transition situations
4.    Reduce chronic hunger and undernourishment
5.    Strengthen the capacities of countries to reduce hunger, including through hand-over strategies and local purchase

But we need everyone to join in and be a part of the help!

Welcome Baiku!

A new slang or term that means trendy, hip, or cool lifestyle surrounding organic and green initiatives.  It is a new wave or way of supporting organic way of life while appealing to and being a part of the Green Movement -protecting the environment, using renewable energy, recycling, supporting organic farming and dining.

Baiku City and Baiku City Mobile are both service entities of Baiku which drive the initiative to promote a healthy and green lifestyle.  The focus of our services starts with organic dining.  According to the Centers for Disease Control Prevention (CDC), the childhood obesity rate has more than doubled for preschool children (ages 2-5 years) and adolescents (ages 12-19 years) and it has more than tripled for children (ages 6-11 years) over the last three decades.

In a joint venture to keep our planet healthy, we as human beings have to make sure that we too are healthy and that we become leaders in setting the example for the next generation.  Baiku City helps by providing New Yorkers with information about organic venues: restaurants, bars and grocery stores.  We provide you with the location and map, phone number, special promotions and feedback of the organic venues right from this website or directly on your   mobile phone through our Baiku City Mobile website (http://www.baikucity.mobi).
